Update: NOW CLOSED – SHORTLIST COMING IN SEPTEMBER 2018
This year, Barcelona-based Production Paradise bore an exciting tradition that’s sure to be upheld by commercial photographers around the world. 2018 will ring in the first-ever Spotlight Awards for Photographic Excellence.
Image makers may put forward their best work for the chance to win up to $18,000 in prizes (the total prize pool is over $60,000!).
There are thirteen professional categories for potential applicants to choose between. They are as follows:
- Architecture & Interiors
- Corporate & Industrial
- Food & Drink
- People & Lifestyle
- Portraiture & Celebrity
- Travel, Documentary, & Landscape
- Still Life
There are only a few submission restrictions to keep in mind:
- Firstly, images older than three years will not be taken into consideration.
- In addition, all images must be shot by the entrant (as opposed to a third party).
- Finally, professional categories will not accept work from entrants under 18 years of age.
Photographers will be charged $35 for their first entry. Afterward, additional entries will tack on an additional $25 fee. The PhotoWorkout.com readers get a 15% off with the coupon: “PHOTOWORKOUT15SA“.
In addition to the thirteen professional categories, photographers may also submit to two special categories that follow a separate set of requirements.

Spotlight Awards Special Categories
The Spotlight Awards’ special categories are meant to reflect current industry trends and create a platform for up-and-coming talent.
Those categories are as follows:
- Shot on Mobile. As the name of this category suggests, all entries must be sourced from a cell phone – no exceptions.
- Emerging Talent & Students. This category is specifically dedicated to those beginning to blossom into full-fledged photographers. Emerging Talent & Student applicants may NOT apply to the thirteen professional categories
The special categories sport significantly less costly entrance fees. Initial submissions cost $10, while each subsequent image will cost an additional $5.
Judging and Prizes
A panel of 50 distinguished judges will decide Spotlight Award winners.
Production Paradise has recruited art buyers, photo editors, marketing moguls, and everything in between from around the world to weigh in on submissions. Their backgrounds vary, but there’s no doubting that each individual is considered an expert in their field.
Each category will produce one winner. Event sponsors will provide all professional category winners with prizes such as free software subscriptions, high-quality gear, and Production Paradise credit. Special category contestants will compete for a slightly different set of prizes.
For instance, the Shot on Mobile winner will receive a brand new iPhone X. The Emerging Talent category, on the other hand, offers free consultations with professional photographers.
Once the judge’s panel has come to a consensus on category winners, they will then choose a single Grand Prize winner. That individual will be awarded a $5,000 cash prize, receive a $5,000 worth of Dedolight Equipment, and much more.
