Its 17-element, 13-group optical formula uses super UD and fluorite elements to control chromatic aberration at long focal lengths, while a built-in image stabilizer delivers up to 5.5 stops of compensation for handheld use. A ring-type USM drives fast, near-silent autofocus, and the lens accepts Canon's RF 1.4x and 2x extenders for 840mm f/5.6 and 1200mm f/8 reach. Weight is 3,090g in a 168 x 472mm barrel with a 52mm drop-in rear filter slot, dust and water-resistant sealing, and a fluorine coating on the front element.
