ODRVM 4K Action Camera Review

While sports action cameras are best known for their ability to capture the feats of extreme athletes in a unique, first-person perspective, they have also become a popular way to document more everyday events.

From road trips and vacations to walks around the neighborhood, these cameras can record it all – but at a price. Most action cameras, like the popular GoPro, are expensive, ranging from $150 to nearly $500.

This price tag makes versatile cameras unaffordable for less serious users, even as they become a more mainstream photography product. However, as this type of camera grows in popularity, more manufacturers are offering less expensive options for the more casual consumer.

Most of these cameras have similar features and performance as the pricier versions and are comparable in quality – like the ODRVM 4K action camera.

This versatile gadget offers an alternative to the GoPro at a much more accessible price point.

But how well does it stack up against the competition?
This review will help you learn more about the ODRVM 4K action camera and what it has to offer, whether you’re an adrenaline junkie looking to capture your next adventure or just looking for a reliable gadget to record a family vacation.

Key Features

Like the other action cameras on the market, the ODRVM 4K provides a range of features and variety of uses. This user-friendly gadget is fully customizable, so once you’ve gotten familiar with the device, you’ll be able to program it to suit your shooting style.

ODRVM 4k Key Features: 2″ screen, 4k, Waterproof, HDMI, and WIFI.

One of this camera’s primary selling points is that it can be used underwater. The waterproof case allows the 4K action camera to be used in depths of up to 98 feet, around 30 meters.

Many similar cameras will only permit users to submerge them by a few meters, making this camera a standout option for photographers who love water sports like swimming, snorkeling, diving, and surfing.

Although shooting underwater will always result in less vivid captures, this device features a specific setting designed to enhance underwater footage. To compensate for the lack of red light available in an underwater setting, the ODRVM 4K employs an additional red filter to allow for clearer, more accurate recording, making it ideal for capturing the action on the water.

Wide Lens

The camera’s adjustable viewing angles allow users to either focus the lens on a specific spot or capture the full picture. There are also options for time-lapse, zoom, car mode, motion detection, cycle record, diving mode, and anti-shaking.

The images captured with this camera are crisp and vibrant. Thanks to the Novatek NT96660 chipset combined with a Sony CMOS IMX078 sensor, you’ll notice enhanced sensitivity to light and substantial noise reduction.

Even during low light conditions, the camera will reliably capture noise-free photos of up to 20MP.

While the camera claims to capture 4K video, the NT96660 chipset isn’t capable of native 4K recording. Using this option will result in captured video that is scaled up from a lower resolution. It’s better to stick with 1080p if you want clean video recordings, especially if you’re trying to track fast-moving subjects.

Wireless Remote

A wireless remote control comes with the ODRVM 4K camera that can be secured onto your wrist to provide direct control of the gadget. With the simple press of a button, you can easily adjust settings or release the shutter-perfect for when you’re in the middle of the action and don’t have time to reach your camera.

The remote’s signal works reliably from as much as 50 feet away from the camera, as long as nothing is in the way. However, the remote is not waterproof, so if you intend to shoot underwater, you’ll have to leave the wireless control behind and control the camera the traditional way.

Built-in WiFi

With built-in WiFi, you have quick and easy options to edit and share your captured content, saving you from the typically time-consuming task of uploading files after the fact.

This is great for users who want to share their images, especially on the go. You’ll be able to upload your content quickly and easily.

However, while the camera’s waterproof casing will keep the device protected underwater, the WiFi signal will be disrupted at depths of around 15 meters.

Built-in Gyroscope

The ODRVM 4K action camera’s video quality is enhanced thanks to a built-in gyroscope, which provides additional stabilization. Whether you’re jumping out of an airplane, tearing through the powder, or racing your bike down a mountain, it will record smooth footage to help you relive your adrenaline-pumping excursions over and over again.

Easy Playback

Photo files are saved in .JPG and video files are .MP4, making them easy to view on a Mac or Windows-based computer and using a video player like Quicktime or VLC. You can also play your recorded footage on any television with a 4K resolution, and the camera’s two-inch LCD screen means you can even preview your content right on the device.

Battery Life

The camera comes with two rechargeable batteries and a USB charger to keep them topped up. Each battery is capable of capturing up to 70 minutes (720p at 120fps), but you can extend your battery life a bit by recording at a lower resolution.

Still, this isn’t terrible battery life for an action camera – especially one with so many features. However, it does indicate that users who intend to record hours of adventuring will need to pack extra batteries to compensate.

Occasionally, as some users have reported, the waterproof case can get in the way of the power button, which can result in a quicker battery drain since the camera won’t turn off. If you’re not planning to shoot underwater, using the included sound-enabled backing will ensure you have better access to the camera’s power button, allowing you to easily turn the gadget off when you’re not recording.

You’ll get plenty of additional accessories with the ODRVM 4K – more than 15 different items, in fact. Along with adhesive pads, lens wipes, and various straps and tethers, you’ll find a variety of mounts to make it a breeze to strap the action camera to your dashboard, bike, helmet, or even a drone. There’s even a selfie-stick attachment, so you can easily share your adventures with your friends and loved ones.

The ODRVM 4K doesn’t come with any internal storage capacity, which means you will have to purchase a Micro SD card separately – specifically a class 10 or above SD card with a capacity of 16 to 128GB. The card will also need to be formatted in the camera upon first use.
Even a bigger SD card is relatively affordable, though, and you’ll actually end up with more storage space than many other action cameras offer since most manufacturers put limits on internal storage capacity.

Similar Action Cameras on the Market

This camera offers many of the same features as the ODRVM 4K at a slightly higher price. However, this camera may not be as user-friendly for new users, as it doesn’t come with a detailed instruction manual.

Another great option for watersports, this camera also includes a wrist remote for easy control. Video and image quality are generally similar to the ODRVM 4K, but the EKEN H9R doesn’t perform as well in low-light settings. While it is capable of handling depths of up to 100 feet, the EKEN H9R won’t provide the same crisp underwater captures as the ODRVM 4K.

Campark ACT74

The WiFi capabilities of this camera make it a standout option, but the lack of built-in gyroscope means that your video footage won’t be as smooth. For everyday vacation recording, this might be a decent option, but for more extreme action, the gyroscope is a must-have.

The ODRVM 4K provides reliable, detailed images and relatively impressive HD video footage, complete with clean audio, thanks to the included sound-enabled backing. While this budget action camera may not capture as much detail as a higher-priced option like the GoPro, it certainly produces quality results for more casual users and offers many of the same features.

It is a nice alternative option for users who aren’t ready or can’t justify a significant financial investment, providing solid value for your money. These cameras are made to be used for extreme activities, and with this more affordable option, you won’t have to be concerned about damaging your expensive equipment as you enjoy your favorite adrenaline-pumping pastimes.
