Polaroid is a company that originally started off manufacturing polarized sunglasses the company was a pioneer of its time in many ways.
Polaroid, founded and led by brilliant research scientist Edwin Land, had single-handedly opened the avenue for instant photography. In the 70’s the craze for instant photography boomed and so did the sales of these cameras. This was about the same time that Polaroid fought a bitter courtroom battle with Kodak having challenged them for stealing their instant camera secrets.
The 1980’s saw a decline in the fortune of the company. A series of bad decisions and drastic changes in the photography industry with the introduction of new technology meant that the fortunes of the company changed for the worse.
The company has also dabbled at, post-acquisition and reorganization, producing digital cameras. Its instant film project was also attempted at revival through the leadership of the Impossible Project.
